What NOT to Clean With Steam Cleaners
If your carpets or upholstery are smelly and stained, steam cleaning may just be the ticket, however, there are some surfaces that you should never do this on, and we at Best Deal Steam Carpet Cleaning of Katy have detailed them below.
What Is a Steam Cleaner?
This is a machine that uses tap water, and it creates dry steam that is powerful enough to remove dirt, grime, stains, viruses, and so much more. Steam cleaners come with internal boilers or water tanks, that will heat the water to high temperatures, which in turn creates powerful steam that will be able to penetrate microscopic pores on various surfaces to destroy dirt, germs, and allergens.
How Do Steam Cleaners Work?
Essentially, they turn ordinary tap water into steam vapor. This is achieved with heat, a great deal of it. In order to kill germs, the water must be at least 225 degrees F.
What You Should Never Steam Clean
Even though chemical-free cleaning is great for your interior air quality, there are sadly, some surfaces that are unable to handle such heat. Below are a few things you should never clean with steam vapor:
-
Anything that can be damaged due to the heat, including water-based paint and cardboard;
-
Porous surfaces, like marble, stucco, and brick;
-
Industrial spaces and food plants;
-
Large areas of carpet;
-
Delicate items, like thin plastic, silks, and velour upholstery;
And, even if you have tried steam cleaning some of the aforementioned surfaces, and been somewhat successful. The following is why we do not recommend it.
Even though technically, a steam cleaner is able to clean large spaces, it is not the most effective way to do it. Some silk items can be steam cleaned with extreme caution, however, it is not advisable because the heat may end up ruining them. But, steamers clean can clean sidewalks and cracks, however, they do not have sufficient power to clean them as well as other machines, such as a pressure washer.
